The fallout from allegations of sexual harassment, sexual assault and sexual misconduct are starting to take shape.
In the case of some - such as Louis CK - it has meant the end of their television and movie careers. For others such as Harvey Weinstein, it's meant firing from the company he helped to build with his brother and expulsion from a number of professional bodies including AMPAS, the governing body of the Academy Awards. Weinstein is now only the second member to ever be expelled from AMPAS.
When various allegations came forward about director / producer Brett Ratner, he opted to distance himself from Warner Bros. - the studio with which his RatPac-Dune Entertainment shingle is heavily associated with. However, it now looks as though it may be just more than "stepping back." As revealed by PageSix.com, Gal Gadot is refusing to star in Wonder Woman 2 unless Ratner is removed as executive producer on the film.
RatPac-Dune Entertainment, Ratner's company that he formed with Trump henchman / Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, helped to co-finance the first Wonder Woman and has been involved in pretty much every major Warner Bros. film in the past couple of years. PageSix's source says that Gadot is refusing to star unless Warner Bros. buys him out and removes him from the film.
The source went on, saying that Gadot "knows the best way to hit people like Brett Ratner is in the wallet."
"She also knows that Warner Bros. has to side with her on this issue as it develops. They can’t have a movie rooted in women’s empowerment being part-financed by a man accused of sexual misconduct against women.”
For their part, Warner Bros. has denied PageSix's story - but it makes sense for everyone involved that Ratner be cut out of Wonder Woman 2 has soon as possible. Again, like the source, the whole thing stinks of hypocrisy if he's kept on when there's allegations doing the rounds of his poor treatment of women.
Just yesterday, Anna Paquin backed up Ellen Page's lengthy Facebook post that accused Ratner of homophobic remarks and sexism on the set of X-Men: The Last Stand. Paquin, via Twitter, confirmed that she was in the room when Ratner made the remarks.
