Since the scandal about Kevin Spacey first broke, it's been clear that the allegations regarding the actor are not just from recent times.

Several people have spoken out about incidents from decades ago - and now one of his co-stars has spoken out about a previously-unknown story regarding one of his best-known roles.

Speaking in yesterday's Sunday Times, Irish actor Gabriel Byrne said that production on 1995 film 'The Usual Suspects' - where Spacey played con artist Verbal Kint - was shut down 'abruptly' for two days because of 'allegations of sexually inappropriate behaviour'.

Byrne said that nobody knew why production had been halted at the time, but had since learned that it was because Spacey had been accused of sexually inappropriate behaviour towards a younger actor.

He said: "I did not know honestly then the extent of his violence. I mean, he was kind of a joke in that people would say 'That's Kevin', but nobody really understood the depth of his predations. It was only years later that we began to understand that [filming] was closed down for a particular reason and that was because of inappropriate sexual behaviour by Spacey."

In the same interview, Byrne - who had worked on three films with Harvey Weinstein - recalled his memories of the producer, saying "I knew he was a sleazebag. I knew he was a bully and I saw his bullying up close. I saw him be absolutely appalling, not just to women but to men as well. He had very little respect for any kind of human being."
