Unless you've been living under a rock or haven't been on Twitter for a while, it was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con that Batman / Bruce Wayne will feature in the next Man of Steel film. It's very early days yet, but they're already talking casting choices. If you've seen the logo that leaked from ComicCon, you'll note the new Batman logo. This, we think, suggests a reimagining of Batman. Reimagining means recasting. Now, look. Let's be clear about this. Christian Bale and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are both PERFECT for Batman. By all accounts, either one of them should be considered first and foremost. But since Bale has pretty much ruled out taking on the cape again and Gordon-Levitt has said the same, we have to consider the real possibility that they're going to do a Garfield / Maguire on it and reimagine the character right down to the suit. Here's five possible choices...

5. ARMIE HAMMER

He was very nearly going to be Batman in the ill-fated Justice League movie that was planned a few years back. It's true, The Lone Ranger hasn't been getting amazing reviews, but Hammer could be an intriguing choice. He definitely harks back to the suave, sophisticated Adam West-era Batman and there does seem to be an underlying darkness to him that the character needs.

4. GARRETT HEDLUND

It seems pretty logical that they're going to completely reimagine and reboot the character. That means that Batman / Bruce Wayne will need to be wildly different from Christopher Nolan's interpretation of the character. Garrett Hedlund has been a fairly solid actor when given the right material. Again, he harks back to the suave Bruce Wayne character that was a big part of the comic books and moves away from the damaged goods of Christian Bale's iteration.

3. KEVIN McKIDD

OK. It's a weird one, yes. But let's look at it like this. We're assuming it's either going to one or two ways. Either they're going to make Batman younger and more brash than Christian Bale's character. That's where Armie Hammer / Garrett Hedlund get a look in. The other path for the character is that Batman has become this truly damaged, broken character and he's up to some nasty stuff. That was one area of the Batman mythos that was never fully explored in any of the films. That Batman was, essentially, a nutjob. He dressed up in black rubber, beat the crap out of people and operated totally outside the law. Hardcore fans will know that Batman always had a plan to kill each superhero in the DC universe and that he famously beat Superman. We're digressing. Kevin McKidd's the obvious choice to play Batman as this truly dark, twisted superhero. Look at Rome. He can handle himself.

2. PATRICK WILSON

This guy seems the most likely. He played Nite Owl in Zack Snyder's previous superhero film, Watchmen, and to be honest, he didn't suck at it. His portrayal of Nite Owl was one of the better points in Watchmen and given that they've worked together in the past, it seems likely. Snyder made some interesting casting choices with Man of Steel and he could do something similar with Batman.

1. ED HARRIS

Again, we don't know what this version of Bruce Wayne / Batman is going to look like so we're covering all possible bases here. The Dark Knight Returns comic-book series featured a middle-aged Batman, returning to Gotham and - surprise, surprise - fighting Superman. We're big fans of Ed Harris and we think he should be getting more and more work instead of less and less. Again, Snyder's a fan of character actors and he made some fantastic casting choices with Man of Steel. Middle-aged Batman / Bruce Wayne, squaring off against a somehow-weakened Supes? Ed Harris has got you covered.
