The Fast and Furious franchise is to get an expansive universe with the news that the studio and Vin Diesel are developing spin-off films and prequels.

The last flick, Fast 7, was the biggest grosser in the franchise and one of the biggest movies of all time - it took a staggering $1.5 billion at the box office. Obviously more from home viewing etc, making it a top earner for Universal Pictures.

Diesel just had The Last Witchhunter open poorly, so it's clear the actor and producer needs the series to keep him somewhat A-list.

Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray has been lined up to direct Fast and Furious 8, which will feature the majority of the team from the series.
