In less than two weeks, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them has had a (groan) magical run at the box office.

According to a statement from Warner Bros., the film has managed to whip up a total of $505 million worldwide, with $161 million coming from US box offices with the remainder - $344 million - coming from overseas figures. Fantastic Beasts had the second-highest box office opening of the year here in Ireland, beaten only by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, Warner Bros. head of International Distribution and Growth Initiatives said that "the enthusiastic global response to ‘Fantastic Beasts’ proves once again that the appeal of the wizarding world transcends language and borders. We, too, foresee strong holds through the holidays and well into the new year."

Fantastic Beasts is facing into steep competition in the coming weeks, however. This week sees the release of Disney's animated epic Moana, next week will see adult-tinged comedy Office Christmas Party and the week after is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This week alone saw a 48% drop at the Irish box office for Fantastic Beasts, but it'll definitely hold on in cinemas until in the new year at the very least.
