As more and more images leak of Jared Leto's Joker costume and look, Margot Robbie's skimpy Harley Quinn outfits and Will Smith dressed like a 1970's pimp, it can all get a good bit confusing.

So, we've decided to cull and curate everything we know about Suicide Squad into one handy compendium.

Here's everything we know so far.

WHO'S PLAYING WHO AND WHAT THEY DO

The initial cast was announced quite some time ago, but here's a quick recap. Jared Leto will play The Joker. Joel Kinnaman will play Rick Flagg, the government agent who's been sent to lead them on the field of battle. Margot Robbie will play Harley Quinn, Joker's "love" interest. Will Smith will play Deadshot, one of the finest marksmen on the planet. Cara Delevigne plays Enchantress, a former artist who was turned evil by an unknown magical being. Jai Courtney plays Boomerang, a criminal who favours boomerang - obviously. Adewale Akkinuoye-Agbaje rounds the cast as Waylon Jones, better known as Killer Croc. Viola Davis plays Amanda Waller, the government representative who looks over the Suicide Squad. The official title? Task Force X.

WILL THERE BE A CROSSOVER WITH SUPERMAN AND BATMAN?

Most likely. Ben Affleck has been sighted on set a few times and, as we know, he plays Batman in the upcoming Batman V Superman movie. There's even a potential for Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor to turn up, provided he doesn't end up in jail or dies at the end of Batman V Superman. Warners / DC are keen to stress that they all occupy the same universe, much like Marvel. Therefore, it's reasonable to assume that anyone from Zack Snyder's movie will turn up here.

WILL THE JOKER TURN UP IN BATMAN V SUPERMAN?

Unlikely. For one, Suicide Squad is still filming at the moment in Toronto whereas Batman V Superman wrapped some time ago. Not only that, Batman V Superman is pretty much loaded with castmembers at the minute. Throwing The Joker in on top of it would be a mistake.

WHAT EXACTLY IS SUICIDE SQUAD, INCIDENTALLY?

In exchange for taking on seriously dangerous missions with a low expectancy of success, super-criminals are offered reduced or commuted sentences. It's basically the same idea from Dirty Dozen - the worst of the worst being offered a second chance if they can complete a daring mission. The official title of the group is Task Force X, as mentioned, but the common name is Suicide Squad.

WHO'S DIRECTING, WHO'S WRITING?

David Ayer, who previously directed Fury and wrote Training Day, will be helming this and writing it too. It's assumed that John Ostrander, the original creator of Suicide Squad, will either have a Story By credit or even help out with the script. Roman Vasyanov, who Ayer worked with on Fury and End of Watch, will be lensing. There's no word on who's doing the soundtrack, but we'd imagine it's someone like Marco Beltrami or possibly even Junkie XL. He's currently working on the soundtrack alongside Hans Zimmer for Batman V Superman and turned in a fantastic score for Mad Max: Fury Road.

SO WHAT'S THE PLOT?

There's been nothing official released as of yet, but most rumours seem to suggest that Lex Luthor will have a major part to play. After all, if it's all but confirmed that Batman will be cameoing, we can reasonably assume that Luthor will be in there as well. Don't forget, Warners / DC are pushing this as a crossroads movie. Lots of characters from Man of Steel and Batman V Superman will intersect on Suicide Squad and obviously push on to the Justice League movie.

The first Suicide Squad comic under John Ostrander saw the team fighting a team of super-powered terrorists from an faux-Arab country known as Qurac. That team was called The Jihad, however it's highly unlikely that this version of Suicide Squad would be so blatant about fighting terrorism. There's more. The original comic-books took pains to point out that it was a suicide mission - meaning one or more of the characters in the squad would die.

Keeping that in mind, it's safe to assume that one of the main characters won't be returning for a sequel - if there even is one.

ISN'T THERE A SUICIDE SQUAD ON TV ALREADY?

Yeah, Arrow has its own version of Suicide Squad with a good few of the characters here - Deadshot and so on. They're separate from this.

WILL IT BE ANY GOOD?

We certainly hope so. There's a raft of big names here - Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jared Leto - and David Ayer's Fury proved he's a capable director if he gets the right material. Leto's Joker, we'll admit, isn't exactly inspiring confidence in us. However, Smith can apply himself to this as a villain and that's something we haven't seen before. Warners / DC are obviously hoping this will be a big winner for them, especially considering it's taking a different approach to the team-up movie. We've already seen Avengers do it, but what would it look from the bad guys' point of view?

Not only that, Ayer's known for his intensity, so we're hoping this will filter into Suicide Squad. Let's not forget - it's a team made up of SUPERVILLAINS. So there's a definite chance they're going to be double-crossing one another at any available opportunity.
