Be still my beating heart, the next live-action remake Disney are making is The Little Mermaid.

Are we excited?

Well, let’s be honest, love ‘em or hate ‘em, the live-action reboots (which so far have included Cinderella, Maleficent, The Jungle Book, Alice in Wonderland and Pete’s Dragon) have been successful as far as box office receipts go.

Moreover, one thing that has us feeling positive about this particular reboot is that none other than Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken have been attached to it.

Miranda is of course best-known for Hamilton – the Broadway musical that ran away with all the Tonys earlier this year – and is set to star in the upcoming Mary Poppins alongside Emily Blunt. He also wrote music for Disney’s next animated feature Moana.

Menken is, in a word, legendary. He composed the scores for, among others, the original The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Hercules.

The duo will create a blend of old and new songs for The Little Mermaid.

So we feel like it’s in safe hands with regards to music but casting may be another matter…
