David Cronenberg talks s**t about Chris Nolan and The Dark Knight
David Cronenberg is talking crap about Christopher Nolan. Why? Because he has a new film out in America this week that isn't very good (Cosmopolis) so wants publicity that doesn't involve Robert Pattinson's missus doing a bit on him.
"I don't think they are making them an elevated art form," Cronenberg told Next Movie. "I think it's still Batman running around in a stupid cape. I just don't think it's elevated. Christopher Nolan's best movie is Memento, and that is an interesting movie. I don't think his Batman movies are half as interesting, though they're 20 million times the expense. What he is doing is some very interesting technical stuff, which, you know, he's shooting IMAX and in 3D. That's really tricky and difficult to do... [but] the movies, to me, they're mostly boring." I'm assuming he hasn't seen Inception being that he doesn't mention it, while Nolan has never filmed in 3D. He added finally, "I think people who are saying, you know, 'Dark Knight Rises is supreme cinema art', I don't think they know what the f**k they're talking about." Who the f**k is saying that, David?
I have never really bought into the notion of David Cronenberg is a visionary filmmaker, or that is of the level that some critics claim. He's interesting but has made a lot of bad films - a lot. In my opinion it's needlessly disrespectful to Nolan who should be lauded for making cerebral blockbusters with studio money and having them turn big profits. Warner Bros and others are more likely to support talented directors with bigger budgets because of Nolan.

He is wrong but Cosmopolis is pretty good. Though Cronenberg is more than just interesting. The Fly, Scanners, Videodrome and A History of Violence are classics.Posted 09:00 | Fri 17th Aug 2012
No one has described Nolans' Batman trilogy as 'cinema art'? Nolan never has (and said he never will) shoot a movie in 3D? This is just an old-man bitter-bashing the success of a young, celebrated director and frankly, its pathetic. Oh, and Cosmopolis was a complete turd.Posted 13:08 | Fri 17th Aug 2012
