There was a shocking turn of events in the movie world last night when it was revealed that Danny Boyle, who had been confirmed to direct the next James Bond film, has left the project.

After expressing their delight in hiring the 'Slumdog Millionaire' and 'Trainspotting' director back in May, producers Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and star Daniel Craig released a brief statement on Twitter breaking the news and blaming 'creative differences' for his departure:

The 25th installment in the Bond franchise was set to begin filming in Pinewood Studios in early December, with a tentative release date set for October 2019. It's not yet known whether this news will affect the schedule.

Boyle himself has not yet commented on the matter - although tellingly, he told the BBC back in 2013 that he 'wouldn't be the right kind of person' to direct a Bond film. Looks like those words have come back to haunt him.
