The highly anticipated documentary Conor McGregor: Notorious has achieved the biggest opening weekend of any Irish film released so far this year at the Irish box office. It is also the biggest opening weekend of all time for an Irish documentary.

The film opened at the number four spot in the Irish box office last weekend and grossed €103,000, or €172,000 including previews. It beat out both the drama based on the 1983 prison breakout of 38 IRA prisoners, Maze (which made €93,000 at the box office) and the Darndale-set gangster flick Cardboard Gangsters (which made €47,000), for the record.

Thor: Ragnarok, Murder on the Orient Express and A Bad Moms Christmas, in descending order, took the top three spots in the Irish box office last weekend, grossing €386,543, €326,308 and €130,345 respectively.

Conor McGregor: Notorious beat out such competition as family films The Lego Ninjago movie and My Little Pony as well as Jigsaw and The Death of Stalin for the number 4 spot. More screens are being added for the movie across the country this coming Friday.

Filmed over the course of four years, Conor McGregor: Notorious observes how the biggest star in MMA rose to the top. With exclusive access, it includes highlights of McGregor’s career such as winning the UFC championship belt, his shock loss to rival Nate Diaz and his record-breaking Las Vegas bout against Floyd Mayweather.
