Colin Firth is now the latest actor to sign for the Mary Poppins sequel.

The Academy Award winning actor will star alongside Emily Blunt in the title role and Meryl Streep as Poppins' cousin. The exact role Firth will play has so far been unspecified, other than that his character name - William Weatherall Wilkins, president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank.

Mary Poppins Returns will be directed by Rob Marshall, who previously directed film adaptations of Chicago, Into The Woods and Nine, and will have songs written by Marc Shaiman and Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame. As well as writing songs, Miranda will also star as a street lamplighter named Jack who befriends Poppins.

Mary Poppins Returns is expected for a December 2018 release.
