By the time Justice League hits cinemas, it's entirely possible that the superhero flick will probably end up being the most expensive film ever made.

Never mind the raft of special effects, costumes, unique sets to be designed, the casting along and the paycheques Warner Bros. will have to cut will be insane. Already, there's a huge amount of weight on the list - Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons, JK Simmons, Willem Dafoe, Amy Adams, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller - and that's not even half of it.

Rumours have begun to circulate that Colin Farrell will be joining the cast of Justice League in an as-yet unspecified role and will likely be announced in the coming weeks, if a deal can be signed off. The source of the rumour, granted, did originate on Twitter - but there are some compelling reasons to think there might be some truth to it all.

Farrell's dance-card, according to official sources anyway, is pretty clear at the moment. He's already signed on to star in Yorgos Lanthimos' follow-up to The Lobster and he'll also be in JK Rowling's Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them before the end of the year.

What's interesting about the latter film is that Fantastic Beasts is a Warner Bros. production, just like Justice League. He's already in the organisation already, so why not float the opportunity to star in what's more than likely going to be one of the biggest comic-book films ever made?

Of course, Farrell is no stranger to comic-book adaptations. We all remember (cough) Daredevil, don't we? In fairness, Farrell was one of the good points about it and his characterisation of Bullseye - complete with Northside Dublin accent - was just brilliant.

Let's all remind ourselves, shall we?
