Chris Pratt continues his upward trajectory of stardom, this time teaming up with Denzel Washington.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star will join a remake of Western epic The Magnificent Seven - which ardent film fans will know was itself a remake of Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.

It's speculated that Washington and Pratt will take the roles played in the original by Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen, however this has yet to be confirmed.

Pratt has already signed on for Cowboy Ninja Viking, which sounds as batshit as the title and will appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.

A remake of Magnificent Seven has been in the works for some time, with Tom Cruise attached at one point to lead.

True Detective's Nic Pizzolatto wrote that version of the script, however a newer version by Maleficent's John Lee Hancock may be used if the film begins production.

A release date has yet to be confirmed.
