Chris Hemsworth is in early negotiations to star in Sony’s spinoff of the sci-fi action-comedy franchise Men in Black.

F. Gary Gray, who previously helmed Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious, is on board to direct. Iron Man writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum are penning the script.

The new film will not feature Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones in their roles of Agents J and K but will revolve around new characters. Hemsworth would play one of the new agents.

Per THR, it’s looking like the new story will revolve around a white character, a black woman, and an older man. It’s being described as ‘a global adventure’.

Hemsworth could prove a great choice for the new movie. He’s proven himself an action star in the Avengers movies and shown he has the chops for comedy in the likes of Thor: Ragnarok and Ghostbusters. Moreover, the actor needs a new franchise now that it looks like his time in the Marvel universe is coming to a close.

The reboot is slated for release on 14 June, 2019.
