In some pretty eyebrow-raising news, it was announced last night that Sony are beginning work on ANOTHER Ghostbusters film.
This male-centric version will be lead by Channing Tatum, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors The Russo Brothers in the helm and Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce on scripting duties.
Meanwhile, the female-centric version starring Bridesmaids' Melissa McCarthy and Kirsten Wiig and SNL's Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, is gathering steam and is set for July 22nd, 2016.
The news has rankled quite a few people already, with many feeling that the news of a male-centric Ghostbusters is a response to studio pressure that a female-led would ultimately fail.
Our take? Look, we love Ghostbusters and the idea of a female-led one sounded brilliantly when it was first announced.
Clearly, Sony are trying to set up a sort of universe for Ghostbusters where, eventually, the male and female teams will cross over and intermingle. That's cool, right?
Channing Tatum, as we know, can be very funny as 21 Jump Street indicates. Plus, we'd have to imagine that the four stars of the female Ghosbusters were made aware of this male-centric version and were happy to sign on with this in mind.
If they didn't, this is pretty much a slap in the face.
As it stands now, Tatum's Ghostbusters won't be anywhere near a cinema until 2018 - if not later. The Russo Brothers are signed on to direct Captain America: Civil War and are frontrunners to direct the third Avengers movie.
If they stay on as directors of this film - and we hope they do - they won't have a break in their schedule until 2017, 2018 at the latest.
Either way, we get two Ghostbusters - so that's something, right?
