Although you might chuckle at the thought of it, Paddington was the highest-grossing independent family film of all time and scored $270 million worldwide against a budget of $55 million.

With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that a sequel's on the way. It's been confirmed by Variety that our own Brendan Gleeson will be joining the cast as 'Knuckles' McGinty, a local safecracker and strongman who becomes a friend to Paddington.

As well as Gleeson, Hugh Grant will also star as Phoenix Buchanan, a vain acting impresario who's fallen on hard times. The film sees Paddington, voiced by Ben Whishaw, now happily living with the Brown family and working a series of odd jobs in order to buy the perfect gift for Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday - only to have it stolen.

If this was any more British, it'd invade Ireland and try to colonise us again.

Paddington 2 hits cinemas on November 10th, 2017.
