It seems we can't go a few weeks without Netflix taking another giant leap into feature films.
We reported a few weeks ago that Netflix is seriously considering Cary Joji Fukunaga (he of True Detective fame) and his Netflix-backed film, Beasts Of No Nation, for Oscar glory.
Not only that, our own Jamie Dornan is headed into the wilds of Africa with Jadotville, based on the Irish UN troops' skirmish in the Congo.
Now, it seems, they're stepping it up yet again. Brad Pitt and his production company Plan B have teamed with Netflix and brought on Aussie director David Michod for an adaptation of the bestselling novel The Operators.
The book tells the story of a "rock star" general who's vaulted to the top of the US military in Afghanistan and becomes obsessed with finishing the war on his terms.
David Michod directed last year's under-watched existentialist post-apocalyptic (try saying that quickly) thriller The Rover with Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson and has been building up a very credible body of work.
The tone of the film will be a sort of satirical comedy, which is weird considering Michod's work doesn't lend itself to that kind of genre.
Not only that, Pitt joining the Netflix hype train is pretty interesting. If a star of his stature is willing to throw himself into on-demand movies, what's to stop anyone else from doing it?
