The fallout from the Harvey Weinstein allegations is continuing, not just for Harvey himself but for The Weinstein Company which he helped to build with his brother, Bob.
In a joint statement released yesterday evening, it was confirmed that Amazon has cut all ties with TWC and cancelled an in-development series with David O.Russell, Julieanne Moore and Robert DeNiro attached. "We support Amazon’s decision as In light of recent news and out of respect for all those affected we have decided together that it is best to not move forward with this show," read the statement.
Meanwhile, Bob Weinstein is now facing rumours that TWC is exploring either a sale of the company, or worse, bankruptcy in light of the unfolding allegations - some of which occurred during Harvey's time in TWC.
Naturally, TWC has denied the rumours and Bob Weinstein's statement to TheWrap reads that "it is untrue that the company or board is exploring a sale or shutdown of the company," and that "(business) is continuing as usual as the company moves ahead.”
So far, Amazon and Netflix have cut ties with TWC and it's understood that AMPAS - the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, AKA the governing body of the Oscars - is considering expelling Weinstein. To date, only one person has ever been expelled from the Academy - and that was for breaking Academy rules on sharing award screeners of movies.
Whatever happens to TWC in the future remains to be seen, but it's pretty clear that Harvey Weinstein's career is over.
