Although many would agree that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was something of a dud, it's safe to say that Ben Affleck's portrayal of Batman was one of the few highlights of the film.

So it goes that there's been a lot of speculation and anticipation surrounding Ben Affleck's upcoming standalone Batman film, with recent announcements including Joe Mangianello playing Deathstroke receiving wide circulation. Outside of this, however, it's been pretty quiet.

However, a report by Comicbook.com has found that Affleck's Batman is closer than we think to hitting our screens. The report suggests that Warner Bros. CEO Jeff Bewkes has the film tentatively scheduled and will most likely begin production in the next year and a half.

The early speculation was that the near-completed Justice League would be followed by Aquaman on July 27th, 2018 and an as-yet unknown DC film - most likely The Flash - for October 2018. However, with this news, it could now mean that Affleck's Batman will hit cinemas in and around the same date - mid-March - as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. More than anything, it speaks to their confidence in Affleck as both a director and that he's really nailed Batman as a character.

No official release date has been confirmed for the as-yet untitled Batman film, however.
