As its second weekend at the box office comes to an end, Beauty and the Beast is making a (groan) beastly amount of money - and it shows no signs of stopping.

Despite a 49.4% drop at US box office, the live-action adaptation has managed to pull in an impressive $316 million and $373 million worldwide, for a total of $690 million. That's $690,252,887 for the pedants out there. If the current success rate at the box office continues, analysts predict that Beauty and the Beast will clear $1 billion within the next three to four weeks.

According to figures from BoxOfficeMojo.com, Beauty and the Beast is now the highest grossing live-action musical of all-time, beating out its nearest competitor Grease, which scored $188 million during its run in 1978. The film also toppled Les Miserables, Chicago and La La Land's record and will be unlikely to be beaten any time soon.

Here in Ireland, the film has stayed strong at the box office and broke the record for highest three-day opening weekend in Irish box office history.
