Although he helped create the franchise and was easily the most integral and recognisable actor in it, Arnold Schwarzenegger is reportedly set to bow out from the future of Terminator.

A report in yesterday's New York Daily News has it that Schwarzenegger is hanging up his clothes, his boots and his motorcycle for the last time. According to the New York Daily News' source, "(the) studio has taken the sequel off the production slate completely, meaning there is no preproduction or any plans for another sequel. The talent had been offered long term deals, but this is not happening."

Earlier this year, it was reported that James Cameron was keen to begin work on Terminator and was said to be close to enlisting Deadpool director Tim Miller for the job. However, the source with the New York Daily News said that Skydance Productions and Paramount have given up on the franchise and that "(it) would need an independent production company to think about making this, and asking Arnie back at age 70 to play that again may be a tough ask."

Schwarzenegger had previously been courted for a run in the US Senate by members of the Republican Party, but later denied these rumours. Whether Terminator lives again with another production company remains to be seen, but for now it's hasta la vista.

Yes, we went there.
