It's official. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actress (she took home a statuette for her supporting role in The Danish Girl, earlier this year don't you know) is set to play Croft in the new Tomb Raider reboot.

The role, made famous by Angelina Jolie (and, of course, the video games) in the early noughties, will see Vikander play "a young Lara Croft setting off on her very first adventure in a prequel to the other two films" - 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' and it's sequel, 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.'

While there had been some rumblings that Daisy Ridley was being lined up to play the British architect in this MGM and Warner Bros. co-production, Graham King has been confirmed as producer, and Roar Uthaug will direct.

Vikander is unsurprisingly busy of late, with her next onscreen appearance due to be opposite Matt Damon in the latest Bourne movie, as well as starring in The Light Between Oceans.
