Which one of you upset Daniel Day-Lewis?
The iconic thespian has announced that he is quitting acting after four decades in the business. In a statement to Variety, a spokesperson for Day-Lewis said:
"Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject."
And that's it. The end of the career of one of our greatest actors.
Daniel Day-Lewis was known for immersing himself completely into the roles he played - often remaining in character off-screen - a method which earned him accolade after accolade, most notably on these shores for his role as Christy Brown in My Left Foot, which is ranked as one of the greatest performances in all of film.
The 60-year-old also won Oscars for Steven Spielberg's 2012 film Lincoln, as well as his role in There Will Be Blood in 2007. On top of that, he won four Best Actor BAFTA Awards, two Golden Globes and was officially knighted for his services to the dramatic arts in 2014.
Day-Lewis has one final film awaiting release, an as-yet-untitled Paul Thomas Anderson drama, and then he hangs up his acting boots for good.
A huge loss to the movie-making world, but here's hoping he's got something else up his sleeve, or you know what, if Daniel Day-Lewis wants to spend his retirement sitting back and enjoying his millions, then he's earned it.
