Yes, that Adam Sandler. Really.

Although we might associate Adam Sandler with the likes of Grown Ups, Grown Ups 2, I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, and any other piss-poor comedy he's done, there's no denying that Sandler has the ability to act in an actually decent movie whenever he wants. Just look at Punch-Drunk Love or even The Wedding Singer and you'll see that Sandler does have a range and an ability that he actively chooses to ignore in favour of a paycheque.

Anyway, Sandler's latest film - The Meyerowitz Stories - went down a treat at this year's Cannes Film Festival and received a whopping four-minute standing ovation following its premiere. The film, directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Sandler, Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson, about a "fractious clan of New York intellectuals" who reunite when the patriarch - Hoffman - is hospitalised.

Baumbach is no stranger to this kind of material, and given the strong reception at Cannes, there's every possibility that this is an early Oscar contender.

No release date has been set for the film, but it will debut first on Netflix before it screens in cinemas.
