A Christmas Carol Tops US Box Office
09 November 2009
A Christmas Carol topped the American box-office this passing weekend, but failed to really impress in doing so. The expensive production coined $31 million in its first three days, but studio insiders are said to have expected more. It should still see decent repeat business over the coming weeks as Christmas approaches. Elsewhere George Clooney starrer The Men Who Stare At Goats was impressive, taking a solid $13.3 million; while the Richard Kelly directed Cameron Diaz starrer The Box did badly, opening with $7.9 million. The big surprise if the weekend was the success if indie flick, Precious, which managed to break the per-screen average record, and take $1.8 million from just 100 screens.
