When HD TV was first introduced to consumers, there was a collective panic from actors everywhere that the facial 'flaws' they were able to conceal over the years would finally be exposed and they would become unemployable.

This was a ridiculous notion of course. Fans really weren't going to care if wrinkles or blemishes suddenly appeared on their favourite actors' foreheads. But it just goes to show how clear an image HD TV affords the viewer that it caused such a fuss.

While there were plenty of worried actors out there, some really needn't have stressed themselves out. You know who we're talking about. The classically good looking stars who won the genetic lottery and whose features are enhanced by HD rather than hindered by it. We've put our thinking caps on and pulled together a list of five actors that HD TV was made for.

1. Henry Cavill

It can't be easy playing Superman. You have to deal with all the snarky criticism of the character being too 'perfect' while at the same time to be truly believable in the role you have to BE perfect. Lucky for Henry Cavill when it comes to his physical appearance he's pretty dame close to it. Strong jaw, chin dimple, piercing eyes. In a word? Super.

2. Scarlett Johansson

It's not an easy feat to have the look of a Hollywood Golden Era starlet and also convincingly portray a Marvel Avenger but Scarlett Johansson has been pulling it off across several movies now as Black Widow. She's the most bankable female action star in Hollywood right now with her Marvel appearances and last year's Lucy raking it in and the box office. Whether it's in one of those blockbusters or in more small scale fare like the Coen Bros.' Hail Caesar, her sultry allure is at the forefront on an HD TV screen.

3. George Clooney

In theory, the introduction of HD televisions should have triggered the anxieties of ageing actors the most. No doubt, there were many people out there waiting to finally see some physical flaws in the seemingly perfect George Clooney. The only problem is George Clooney is an enigma. A freak of nature who actually gets better looking as he gets older. He's basically the closest thing we're ever going to get to a real life Benjamin Button.

4. Zoe Saldana

The introduction of HD TV was a move by the industry to boldly go where no one had gone before. Much like Zoe Saldana's Uhura and the rest of the crew of the Starship Enterprise have done across two installments of the Star Trek reboot. Among the amazing design work and fantastic special effects, Saldana's flawless beauty stands out on an HD screen.

5. Ryan Reynolds

Although his latest and most successful movie required him to have a disfigured face and wear a mask for the majority of the running time, Ryan Reynolds' facial features certainly haven't held him back when it comes to forging a career as a leading man. The Vancouver native's sharp wit and natural ease at spouting wise cracks might have been enough to make him a star but when his face looked that flawless on an HD TV there really was no stopping him.
