'Captain Marvel' recently crossed $1 billion at the box office. The next chapter in the MCU, 'Avengers: Endgame', hits screens on Thursday, April 25th. Thus we're looking over the figures behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe's behemoth box office intake.

 

PRODUCTION BUDGETS

On average, the production budget for a Marvel Cinematic Universe is $190,350,000 - with the highest being $330,600,000 for 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' whilst the lowest being $130,000,000 for 'Ant-Man'. All told, Marvel has so far spent $3.8 BILLION on their films so far, and that's not yet counting 'Avengers: Endgame'. Only one film so far has made back its production budget from the US opening weekend alone - 'Black Panther'.

 

WORLDWIDE BOX OFFICE

At the start of 2018, 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' had the highest international box office of the MCU, with $946.4 million outside of the US. However, 'Infinity War' now takes the lead at $1.369 billion in international receipts. 'The Incredible Hulk' is the lowest, with just $128.6 million. On average, $533 million is made overseas per Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

 

ROBERT DOWNEY JR.

Out of Robert Downey Jr.'s career, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has accounted for 74.5% - or $7,648,503,342 - of his career box office take.

 

SAMUEL L. JACKSON

Although most people might not think Samuel L. Jackson is the central character of the franchise, he's starred in nine of them. However, compared to Downey Jr., the Marvel Cinematic Universe accounts for 31.8% of his career box office.

 

CREDITS

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have written five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, beginning with 'Captain America: The First Avenger' and running right through to 'Infinity War' and the fourth Avengers movie. Only one cinematographer has worked on more than one movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Matthew Libatique worked on 'Iron Man' and 'Iron Man 2' with Jon Favreau. Anthony and Joe Russo are, to date, the most prolific directors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having helmed 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier''Civil War', 'Infinity War' and the upcoming 'Endgame.

 

TRAILERS

'Avengers: Endgame' is the most-watched trailer of all time on YouTube with 289 million views in the first 24 hours. 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Thor: Ragnarok' are also among the most watch trailers of all time.

 

OSCAR GOLD

14 actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have won an Oscar so far. These include Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Tilda Swinton (the Ancient One), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) and Cate Blanchett (Hela).

Marisa Tomei, who played Aunt May in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' and 'Captain America: Civil War', is one of three actresses to play the role who've been nominated for an Oscar. Both Sally Field ('The Amazing Spider-Man') and Rosemary Harris (Sam Raimi's trilogy) were also nominated for Oscars.

All three 'Iron Man' movies have received nominations for Best Visual Effects but none of them won.

 

TOTALS

All told, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its twenty released films have made $17,529,805,738 worldwide. That's seventeen billion, five hundred and twenty nine million, eight hundred and five thousand, seven hundred and thirty eight dollars. Converted to Euro, it's €15.5 billion worldwide.

When deducted from the total cost of producing the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, Disney/Marvel has therefore made a total of $13,722,805,738 so far.
