There may be no Meteor Awards this year, but at least we have a load of people in tuxes and taffeta merrily sweating in a hotel function room for six hours straight to look forward to...
By the looks of things, Love/Hate are bounding ahead with no less than ten nods in the Television Category, while As If I'm Not There and The Runaway are leading the way in Film. Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson (his sons Domhnall and Brian also get a nod for When Harvey Met Bob and Love/Hate respectively) are nominated for their performances in the Irish gangster comedy Perrier’s Bounty, and both Colin Farrell and Saoirse Ronan receive nominations for their performances in Peter Weir’s The Way Back. Pierce Brosnan (The Ghost) and Liam Neeson (Chloe) are also shortlisted for their work on international projects with Martin McCann and Colm Meaney receiving nominations for their leading roles in Irish features Swansong: Story of Occi Byrne and Parked respectively. And Fair City writer Hilary Reynolds receives her first IFTA nomination as do the Irish soap opera's stars Sarah Flood and Eamon Morrissey!!! Surprisingly the lighting crew got overlooked.
