Simon Cowell Blowing Off About Strictly Again...
02 September 2010Simon Cowell's being a bit arsy regarding the transmission time of Strictly Come Dancing, which makes a change:
"This is nothing more than being pathetic, childish and doing a disservice to people who pay the licence fee. We don't pay the licence fee for people to play games with ratings. It is completely and utterly wrong. We gave them the choice last year about time slots but they have this obsession with competing with us... I would suggest they put it on a bit earlier in the afternoon because their audience is older. I am being serious. Then they can have a nap afterwards if it finishes at six."
All fair points. Especially about the nap thing.
There is some comforting news; Strictly's launch doesn't clash with X Factor. It's being aired at 6.25pm on September 11th: "Tess Daly and (the shuffling cadaver that is) Bruce Forsyth will return to reveal the 14 celebrities that are taking part in this year's competition in a one-hour special at 6.25pm on BBC One. The X Factor airs on the same evening at the slightly later time of 7.45pm."
Well that is relief. There I was going to go to the insurmountable bother of engaging momentarily with the Sky Box.
Yep. Another slow news day... With the exception of Axl Rose being precious, and the unveiling of one Ben Collins as The Stig (some say that his revelation is inconsequential, and quite frankly a let down after Schumacher had a go off helmet that time. All we know is we'll keep on calling him The Stig)... Soooo, yeah. Anyone got any jokes?

Strictly Come Dancing is ten million times better then X Factor!!! X Factor is just one big stupid pantomime where Simon Cowell gets to manipulate a phenomenal amount of people into voting for whoever he'd like to win. It's a joke and a fix and a rip-off to anyone who votes! On top of all that they made a holy show of Dublin on Sunday night! Strictly – if you can get over the fact that 'Brucie' and every other old person in Brittan and Ireland seem to love it – is actually really good. The dancing's brilliant and at least you know whoever wins has one purely on talent as apposed to whoever Simon's decided will make him the most money for a year… Besides whats he even moaning about X Factor still gets the better ratings so whats his point giving out about the times. Anyone who prefers Strictly over X Factor is still gonna want to watch it in the later evening as apposed to the middle of the afternoon. Rant over. Sorry.

No need to apologise, it's good to rant - especially when it's in context :-)

@ Lisa - X-Factor, in my opinion, is far better than Strictly. But, they are two very different shows. And they didn't make a show of Dublin? They showed Mary Byrne, who EVERYONE is voting for. They even invited her onto GMTV and devoted 12 minutes of air-time to her. They make a show of every city they visit.

Keith - as Charlie Brooker himself said last year "The X-Factor is broken" (http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2009/aug/29/screen-burn-x-factor); it used to be brilliant and then it turned sh*t. But you have a point Mary Byrne was excellent and well deserved her 12 minutes on GMTV but outside of her all they showed of Dublin was Simon huffing and puffing and throwing daggers at Louis for dragging him here. They only showed at most 20mins of Dublin and the rest of the show was back in London. Mary Byrne may well have been the best of Dublin but surely she wasn't all that was talented of the Dublin auditions, the rest of what they showed though were abysmal… And its true that they show the bad in every city so no matter where you're from if X-Factor show up there's bound to be some embarrassment but they show the good the bad and the mediocre; Dublin got the truly horrendous, the slightly less awful and then Mary Byrne. And of course EVERYONE in Ireland is gonna vote for her but if they'd put Temple Fire through we'd probly do the same on principle. Just to beat them. Imagine how far through the competition Jedward would have got if we'd been able to vote last year. But I do take your point they are two completely different shows. Strictly's just better.
