Have You Heard About Our IFTA Coverage This Year?

09 February 2012

C'mere 'til I tell ye *rubs knee*

It's that time of the year again, when the IFTAs, The BAFTAs and The Grammys all decide to be on the same weekend. Our main concern this year is the IFTAS - 'cause we're going to be there in many different guises.

The Red Carpet for the IFTAs kicks off at 4.30pm this Saturday, and Caroline Foran as well as our ION Crew and our Caught Out photographer will be covering all the action from there. Caroline is on Tweeting duties #IFTA2012, so expect lots of updates, as well as the odd shaky camera photo of all the dresses shimmying towards the Convention Centre. All our photographs from the red carpet will be available to view here from Saturday night, and our ION Video will be live on Sunday.

Then it's on to the Press Room, where Mike Sheridan will be hob nobbing with all the winners, which you'll be able to see next week on his Movie Show, while Caroline continues to Tweet up a storm backstage. Be warned - if you're planning on watching coverage of the awards on RTE1 from 9.35pm, they're not going out live this year, so Caroline's tweets may contain spoilers.

The IFTAS have quite the guestlist this year; expect Brendan Gleeson (The Guard), Michael Fassbender (Shame), Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, The Crimson Petal and The White), Brenda Fricker (Albert Nobbs), Emmy nominated Brían F. O'Byrne (Mildred Pierce, Prime Suspect), Stephen Rea (Underworld Awakening), Ruth Negga (Shirley, Misfits), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Albert Nobbs), Liam Cunningham (The Guard), Emmett J. Scanlan (Charlie Casanova), Amy Huberman (Stella Days), Brendan O’Carroll (Mrs Brown’s Boys), Antonia Campbell Hughes (The Other Side of Sleep), Colin Morgan (Merlin), Martin McCann (The Pacific, Titanic Blood & Steel), Charlene McKenna (RAW) and Keith McErlean (RAW).

For those of you sitting in on Sunday night watching the BAFTAs, I'll be curled up on the couch with a takeaway and a small vat of vino if you fancy joining me on Twitter, just follow @EntertainmentIE #BAFTA from 7.30pm. Miss Piggy's hosting the red carpet coverage this year (quite the upgrade from Edith Bowman, 7.30pm, BBC3), before the awards themselves kick off at 9.00pm (BBC1). I'll then be posting a winners list here at 11pm, before scuttling off to bed for a rather early start... for come Monday morning there will be winners lists, galleries and opinion a plenty from the IFTAS, BAFTAS and GRAMMYs.

Come have a gander at all the gunas, 'cause that's what awards season is all about, innit.
