Um, Amanda Brunker's 'Oxegen Debut'?
11 July 2011Ireland is an island awash with struggling and often outstanding musicians, therefore it makes total sense that Jessie J's abandoned Oxegen slot be filled by former beauty fodder / journalist / novelist / sofa peddler / general mammary purveyor Amanda Brunker. And she didn't even have the decency to wear a low cut top.
When John first broke the news of Brunker's impending performance last Wednesday, we all thought it was an elaborate hoax concocted by some PR sort from the Sunday World or Cost Plus Sofas... sadly for all involved, it wasn't. Indeed - instead of choosing to possibly break the new Villagers or Bell X 1 - festival organisers permitted Amanda Brunker to treat the scantly assembled crowd (in the region of eight souls) to barely audible dance rendition of U2's With Or Without You... Her best mate, Bono, must be so proud.
Needless to say, most of the footage and the accompanying avalanche of negative comments were whipped off YouTube as fast as they were thrown up. Not to worry, Amanda, many a pair of pained ears are still clanging with your writhed out whimpered efforts (which can be viewed here, but for how long?!)... All together now, you to Brunker - "and you giiiiive yourself away... and you giiive yourself away... and you give, and you give, and you GIIIVE YOURSELF AWAAAAYHAY"

To be honest I would have prefered if she had used to slot to try and peddle sofas than sing. It would have been a far more successful venture for her

What a flipping Gee bag! How is this cretin in the media? She falls into that particular subsection of authors that have written more books than she's read.

Her 'performance' was dire, yeah, but I have to hand it to her; absolutely nothing seems to phase her. I really do believe she is under the impression that she can try her hand at anything. And that, I suppose, has to be admired. At for her performance, it really diluted my opinion of Oxegen.

I thinks it's terrible that such valuable stage space has been given to a person in a non music career in the first place. There have never been more bands trying to make a name for themselves in Ireland at the moment, any on of them would give their left nut for that exposure. I thinks it marks the end of oxegen as we know it.

@doubleletter i wouldn't praise her for blind ignorance. Someone decided that likes of her, and countless other C-list Irish "celebrities" would be rammed down our throats and that stupid slot at Oxygen only reinforces that.

I'm not praising her, herself. Nor am I praising her selction for the Oxegen stage, or her perfermance. I just feel that she has a lot of confidence, you know, you may call is blind ignorance, but I know I could never just, on a whim (this had to be a whim) agree to perform at Oxegen with no musical background. I'm sure it took her a lot of guts to get up there. In saying that, it was probably better she hadn't.
