Axl Rose a Poor Time Keeper, Shocker...
02 September 2010Well, as it turns out, those souls watching the Guns 'n Roses tribute band enlisted to launch Radio Nova on a barge snailing down the Liffey yesterday afternoon were treated to a better set than those unfortunates who forked over the guts of €80 knicker to attend the O2 last night (for those of you who didn't pay, here's an expletive riddled video synopsis of what happened...)
As radio shows across the country - like FM 104's Adrian Kennedy's Phone Show, and Today FM's KC At Night - were breaking the story of Axl Rose vacating the stage 20 minutes into the set (after arriving over an hour late... again) our Dave took to his laptop in the wee hours to regale the events of the night. Many of you left lengthy comments on the news piece itself and on Facebook, while his story was ReTweeted across the globe; as far flung as Italy, Portugal, Norway, the States, Canadia...
So there's only one pressing question left for me to ask...
What in the name of Jaysis was Axl up to when he should've been on stage?

I have to admit, yeah an hour late is a disgrace, yeah Axl's a looper, but seriously, throwing bottles at a band because they were late? That's pathetic. Had i been there, i'd just be hoping that they do arrive and haven't cancelled. I think even partial refunds should be offered out at least, but only to those who played the game fair, not trouble makers. And let's not forget, Axl's a seriously troubled guy, why not cut him some slack?

Didn't he come back on and play until ten to two tho afterwards? Have to say I'd be seriously annoyed if I'd left while he was gone offstage...

Does he not like big gatherings of people who pay to hear his music or something?

Yep, i think he came back and they played out their set. He just avoided the audience and stayed at the back of the stage. I would never have left until i was sure the show was over. I think he acted fairly, he was entitled to walk off after what they did. But for people who really thought it was over and left without causing any trouble, they're entitled to a refund, they were cheated.

Makes me think of a scene in The Blues Brothers where Jake and Elwood bring the band to a country bar and they get pelted with bottles and glasses for playing Gimme Some Lovin', lol. That's what bands need now, wire mesh. @Cynic, Justin Bieber isn't a drug taker or alcho, and wasn't raped by his father, that bottle is probably the first problem he's ever had in his life.

@ Paul -- You said on the Entertainment.ie website that you were there? Don't lie to make a point.

I think it may have been more about waiting around for an hour then then he couldnt even sing one song without gasping for breath every 5 seconds. If you insist on making people wait so long ( and a half hour before the offical curfew laws kick in) then you have to pull out something special not a half ass attempt at a song. I dont agree with bottle throwing but I really dont agree with a pompous eejit with a god complex

@Keith, stop being a fool, everyone knows i said no such thing. Whilst on the subject, you mind me asking how you knew that was me on Facebook? Surely there's more than one Paul who uses this website?

@Paul, this isn't the first time axl has done such a thing. he is a pathetic excuse for a lead man. he is a drug taker and alco bcos that is the life he chose. many rockers have been raped or abused as kids...kirk hammett and jonathan davis are just two that were abused but aren't complete clowns like axl. ok u like his music but the guy is a douchebag. it's common knowledge in the music world. he should know better after the incident in montreal in 1992. skip to about 4 mins in people................http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5ZjEe4imhA&feature=related

@Damoeire, i said most of that myself. However, as bad as Axl may be, did he throw any bottles? Who hurled the bottles at who? Who hurled the abuse at who? Sure wasn't Axl. And be fair here, he's the star, not like he's anyone's b*tch, he can come on stage anytime he wants, once the show goes ahead, why should anyone care?

Lads, they were plastic bottles for god sake, the way you are talking youd think they were glass. Also O2 doesnt let you have the top of the bottle, so they cant be used as weapons. Also, was he even hit with one. Poor Axl the likkle baby, hes a big pu*sy if you ask me. He's suppose to be a hard man of Rock

And he's done it again. Should have been on stage at 8.40 and gets on stage an hour later. Means a lot of people missed the last 50 minutes of the set. Disgraceful!!!! I have sympathy for his past but can it really be that that makes him an hour late for his concerts? The o2 arena sees a lot of tube customers. I received an e mail at 3.00pm on the day of the concert saying it would finish at 11.00pm. 3 hours later my wife is at North Greenwich being told that it will not finish before 12.00 and the last train is 11.30.
