'YOU'VE HAD YOUR DAY PAT, YOU'VE LIVED THE HIGHLIFE!'
10 November 2009Weeeell, they didn't call it the Frontline for nothing.
Things started off fairly stoically, with Social Affairs Minster Mary Hanafin outlining some of the upcoming budget cuts (roll on Decemeber... wheeeeee). Presumably sparked by some of his fellow audience members' pain at having to survive on social welfare, one gentleman decided to become spokesperson, shouting (for three whole minutes): "It's you Pat Kenny who gets 600,000 pound a year for doing 11 hours a week and you have the indignity to speak about people on social welfare and disability?! Your RTE and the elite 20 who are paid do not deserve the money they get. And you need to be confronted for your moralising and hypocrisy."
This is the best bit: "I don't mind this woman here (that'd be Minister Hanafin) who was elected by the people, but who gave you and your cohorts such exaggerated pay from the licence fee."
The footage is here, if you wish to see Mr. Kenny attempt to wrap up the show with yer man howling his head off in Braveheart mode.

It's an old joke Meh, when someone has crappy teeth you say "his/her dentist wishes to remain anonymous"

Meh
I doubt an dentist has ever entered the equation :)

mmm
fair play to him. I couldnt agree with him more. If Pat's pay was cut back to a mere 200,000 for even this year alone that saving would be enough to employ 12 teachers for the next 10 years.

mmm
clearly i didn't do so good at maths in school. I meant for the next year, not 10 years. Embarrassment for me

Haha, that's hilarious, I've moved to the UK (no jobs) so this is the ideal way to get the best of RTE without having to suffer through watching the programmes! Cheers guys for the titbit and yep that man just said exactly what everyone else in the country mutters or shouts at the TV when he come on.

Think that's bad, the seanad(sp?) get's E80k+ per year as well as an expenses allowance of E24k. Oh, and he only works 75 days a year

I think the members of the Seand do far more to earn their salary (though it's about time the expenses situation got sorted, we all have to pay for our own work related costs out of our basic salary) than those in RTE. I completely agree with Alan O'Brien, it's all well and good to be earning a salary like Pat et al when working in the private sector but not the public, and most certainly not during a recession, when people already in a precarious position are going to be pushed further to the edge, or more frightingly over it.

I think he is absolutely right,he is obviously het up and ranting, but he does make very vaild points.Pat Kenny is ludicrous and in no way deserves his equally ludicrous salary.I,like Denise am in the UK but there was so much hype on facebook when this aired that I knew Sheena wouldn't let me down :)
