Shailene Woodley was arrested for "criminal trespassing" yesterday after the actress took part in a peaceful protest over a pipeline that is set to be built on land considered sacred by Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota.
Woodley, who has been a vocal opponent of the Dakota Access Pipeline, proved that she can walk the walk as well as talk the talk after protesting on the site along with hundreds of others and then faced being under arrest.
"Why am I being arrested and no one else is who is down there, is my question," Woodley can be seen to ask police. "Is it because I’m famous? Is it because people know me? We were all down there. When you asked us to leave, we did. It’s because I’m well-known. It’s because I have 40,000 people watching."
Police say she was one of 27 people arrested on charges of criminal trespass and engaging in a riot.
Woodley was later released from Morton County Jail in North Dakota, with her publicist telling E!: "She appreciates the outpouring of support, not only for her, but more importantly, for the continued fight against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline."
