Just when you thought it was impossible to love him any more.
The Critics Choice Awards aren't really noted for much other than being the first real litmus test for awards season, and with awards like 'Entertainer of the Year' sometimes feel closer to the likes of the Teen Choice Awards than the Oscars, but Ryan Reynolds managed to turn that honour around last night not by being cavalier, sarcastic or disingenuous (as one would expect from Deadpool) but by reflecting upon the great work of charity organisations that he's worked with to do good.
Welcomed to the stage by T.J. Miller and People/EW Editorial Directos Jess Cagle, Reynolds took a serious tone from the offset, thanking his co-stars and team from 'Deadpool' before moving onto more pressing matters, saying:
"The character had cancer and some of the people that this character resonated with was sick kids. So I would like to dedicate this honor to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and the SickKids Foundation of Toronto, two incredible organizations that do so much for so many kids in need. And I'd also like to dedicate this award to the memory of my friends, Conor McGrath and Grace Bowen. They didn’t lose the battle. They started a fight and it’s up to us to finish it."
