The news came as a big surprise for fans of the California Girls singer, given how vocal she has been about her support for Hillary Clinton.

Katy shared her vote for Clinton on social media, which she put in on the Democrat nominee’s birthday in late October, and frequently posted positive social messages about Clinton as well as performing at the Democratic National Convention.

Katy spoke to a large crowd gathered at the Clinton election night party in New York City and delivered a message of unity for the country. Given the despair that has come out of the results of the election, it’s a powerful message.

She says: ‘What a great country this is that gives us the freedom to express our differences, our opinions, our hopes and our fears’, before revealing that her parents voted for Donald Trump, who is the next POTUS.

She continues: ‘But you know what? We will still all be sitting at the same table for Thanksgiving. This is the moment we need to remember that we all love our parents and we all love our children, and I can rest easy knowing that both my nieces at home will never see themselves less than equal.’
