Despite having a career that spans more than 50 years and over 97 films, Donald Sutherland has somehow never won an Oscar and this weekend the Academy righted that wrong by awarding him with an Honorary Award.

Before he spoke, Sutherland was honoured separately by both Colin Farrell and Jennifer Lawrence, who delivered heartwarming speeches about their first time meeting Sutherland and also shared their favourite (hilarious) stories about him.

When it came for the 82-year-old actor to speak, he didn't disappoint.

In between thanking all the people he's worked with and his family, he shared stories from his career and several funny anecdotes before ending by borrowing a line from Jack Benny, saying "I don't deserve this, but I have arthritis, and I don't deserve that, either."
