Professional lookalikes are a real thing, and there's been more than a few of them who have been employed by celebrities to duck paparazzi and mislead celebrity journalists.

Whatever about Elvis and his impersonators, there's been quite a number of recent impersonators who've taken on their respective roles with the kind of commitment you can only hope to get from crazy people.

This conspiracy theory reads like it was written by a crazy person. However, for whatever reason, it's become extremely popular and has been retweeted 22,000 times since last night.

The theory comes from Twitter user givenchyass, who over the course of about fifty tweets, lays out a terrifying conspiracy theory that includes Avril Lavigne's apparent death, and evidence pointing to a number of facial and physical differences between Avril and "Melissa", the name of a lookalike who has assumed Avril's name and likeness by an all-powerful record company.

Essentially, the theory contends that Avril Lavigne committed suicide around 2003 - at the height of her popularity - because of the death of her grandfather. Instead of announcing her death, Lavigne's record company begun releasing songs and replaced Lavigne with a lookalike which Avril was, reportedly, very friendly with.

It's bonkers stuff, but like all conspiracy theories, it relies heavily on your willingness to believe and reject material facts and evidence.
