We’d imagine she’s pretty red-faced right now.

Selma Blair has backtracked after stating that her friend and former co-star Cameron Diaz is retiring from acting.

In a recent interview with Metro, Blair discussed the actresses’ 2002 movie The Sweetest thing.

"I had lunch with Cameron the other day,” she said. "We were reminiscing about the film. I would have liked to do a sequel but Cameron’s retired from acting. She’s like ‘I’m done.'"

She added, "I mean, she doesn’t need to make any more films. She has a pretty great life, I don’t know what it would take to bring her back. She’s happy."

Blair has since said that she was "making a joke in an interview" and jokingly tweeted that she is "NOW retiring from being Cameron Diaz’s spokesperson".

The actress also took to Instagram to emphasise that the comments were made in jest:

Mind you, this isn’t the first we’ve heard of Diaz’s retirement as she herself made comments about wanting to leave acting behind last year. Diaz hasn’t made a film since the 2014 remake of Annie.
