Pics from Gordon D'Arcy and Aoife Colgan's wedding.
Forgive us for being a bit slow on this one but we were off rolling in the mud in the Phoenix Park all weekend. Some amount of time it takes to get that out of your hair, nails and eyes but finally, we can fully enjoy the photos from rugger bugger Gordon D'Arcy's wedding.
D'Arcy and Aoife Colgan married on Friday in St. Macartan's Cathedral in Monaghan. The bride arrived a half an hour late for the ceremony which gave D'Arcy and his groomsmen a bit of time to squeeze themselves out of this vintage Honda Civic. Don't think they're made to fit four heavy rugby players AND a driver, lads.
With that out of the way it was on to the elegant church ceremony. For those of you - like us - who missed out on all the soppy details, apparently Colgan, 29, was walked up the aisle by her dad to a string quartet interpretation of Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones. Continuing with the hippie/ rockery theme, Mumford and Sons 'White Blank Page' and Bob Dylan's 'Make You Feel My Love' were among the other numbers that filled the church.
Quite the blushing bride he's bagged himself here though, don't you agree? His new missus dazzled her guests and the paparazzi in this flowing Grecian gown. We're loving that it's backless and loving the 1960s vibe but not so sure on the head piece. Then again, it's different and she looks bloody good. No argument there. What's also noteworthy is her choice of footwear. Flats! Either this was a decision made so as not to make poor Gordo look too short OR she's a creature of comfort like myself. Why so many women endure pain in their sky high stilettos when you'll be standing for pretty much the entire day, I'll never know.
The rain may have reared its ugly head but that didn't stop D'Arcy's grin spreading from ear to ear as he put a ring on Colgan's finger before 250 delighted guests.
Among the guests at the Castle Leslie (swanky indeed) reception were fellow newlyweds (how long can you refer to a couple as newlyweds I wonder?) Brian O'Driscoll and Amy Huberman. Unfased by the rain, Huberman looked as radiant as ever in a bright colour block shift dress while Drico looked the same as always in his black penguin suit. Other guests included models Ruth Griffin and Sarah McGovern who both opted for floor length numbers.
And as for the honeymoon? Well at this point in time we reckon they're cruising at an altitude of about 35,000 feet en route to Barbados while the ladies of entertainment.ie (OK just me) indulge ourselves in a reverie wherein WE'RE the ones who get swept off our feet by a handsome (and loaded) rugby player. *Sigh
