At 76 years of age, you'd think Patrick Stewart would be pretty much done with changing his passport and was happy enough to remain a British subject.
Not so, as it turns out. In an interview on The View, Stewart announced that he's set to become a US citizen so that he can fight Donald Trump. Not physically, mind, but who wouldn't want to see Captain Picard kick twelve shades of shit out of the Grand High Cheeto himself?
As Stewart explains in the clip below, "I’m not a citizen, however, there is - maybe it’s the only good result of this election - I am now applying for citizenship because I want to be an American, too. Because all of my friends in Washington said there is one thing you can do: Fight, fight. Oppose, oppose. But I can’t do it (yet) because I’m not a citizen."
Stewart has been politically active in the past, taking part in a short film for the Remain campaign in the United Kingdom, campaigned against the Iraq War, and comes from a trade union family. Stewart is currently married to a singer-songwriter from the US and has been living there on and off since the late '80s when he began his stint as Captain Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
