One Direction did rather well at last night's MTV VMAs (which can be seen tonight from 9am on MTV), winning three awards out of the 85million they were nominated for.

Niall told the audience during one of their many trips to the stage: "This one's for our fans, you're amazing. This one's for you." Liam then brought the quality of the award into question, saying: "We've had this award two seconds and we've already broken it."

Meanhwhile Louis took time out to give the obligatory thanks their overlord, saying "Thanks to Simon Cowell and all at SyCo, this one's for our fans.'

They were the biggest winners one the night night - winning Best New Artist, Best Pop Video, and (get this) Most Shareworthy Video - followed by Chris Brown (who beat Drake to a gong, sure he's thrilled about that), M.I.A. and Calvin Harris, who all bagged two awards each.

Full list of winners below, we'll be discussing Rihanna's newish hairdo (Halle Berry she is not), Nicki Minaj's homage to the Ready Brek Kid, and Katy Perry dressing herself in a partially submerged bin liner shortly.
