First things first: if anyone knows exactly why the Irish ladies' hockey team were singing 'All I Want for Christmas is You' in early August, please let us know.

Nonetheless, it seems that the World Cup silver medallists' (g'wan Ireland) rendition of Mariah Carey's festive hit has reached further than even they might have expected.

As you may know, the hockey team - who were the first Irish sporting team to reach the final of any World Cup in any sport at senior level - enjoyed a homecoming on Monday, when thousands turned out to Dublin's Dame Street to congratulate them.

They had a bit of a sing-song, including the aforementioned Christmas classic - and even Mariah herself had something to say about it:

A-mazing, indeed.

EDIT: It seems that the song was a reference to the team describing the night before the match as 'being like Christmas Eve' - so now you know.
