Rogen is best-known for his comedic material on the screen and in interviews. However his reaction to co-star Katherine Heigl’s complaints about working on their 2007 film Knocked Up is sadder than you’d expect.
Heigl had previously said in an interview with Vanity Fair that she felt the movie ‘paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys.’
However, during an interview with Stern last April Heigl redressed what she said, praised the director and said the characterisation was her own: ‘Judd allows everyone to be very free and improvise, and afterwards, I was like, why is that where I went with this? What an a–hole she is!’
Yesterday with Howard Stern, Rogen talked about how much he enjoyed working with his co-star: ‘As we were making the movie, honestly, I was like, ‘I would make a dozen movies with her. I would be whatever the sh—y version of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan is.
‘I thought we had a great dynamic, people seemed to like it, we were funny together, I was having a really good time, and then when I heard afterwards that she didn’t like it, that she seemed to not like the process, and she did not like the end product either.
‘I think when that happens – also your trust feels somewhat betrayed. We have a very open process. We’re like, ‘You have the ability to say anything at any moment. I don’t like how I’m coming across here.’
Rogen also responded to Heigl’s statement that she felt her criticism of the film damaged her career: ‘I don’t want that to have happened to her at all. Because I’ve said a thousand stupid things, and I really like her. Especially if she is being honest, the only people who, in this situation, should in any way take anything from it is me and Judd. Because we are the ones she was talking about. For other people to not work with her because she didn’t like her experience with us is crazy.’
At the same time, according to Rogen, neither he nor director Judd Apatow have heard from the actress.
