It's 2017, and the Americans have elected a crazed lunatic who used to host a middling reality TV show, Ireland has an openly-gay Taoiseach, every male celebrity is probably some kind of sexual monster, and Helen Mirren wants to play said crazed lunatic who used to host a middling reality TV show.

Yes, all of this makes sense to us now - but can you imagine any of this ten years ago? Of course not. This is like in Back To The Future when McFly tells Doc Brown that Ronald Reagan is the US President and he scoffs at him. It's crazy, but it makes sense in context.

So it goes that Helen Mirren is eager to play Donald Trump, and believes that she has the acting chops to do it. In an interview with THR, Mirren explained her logic. "I love it. I’ve almost got the hair! I mean what a fascinating character. What an extraordinary character. I mean that’s a character isn’t it, the real thing?"

"I would say real life is so much more interesting than anything you can make up, you know. But you know, a fantastic sort of slightly Shakespearean character. He may have a Shakespearean fall, I don’t know but you know, he is an extraordinary character.”

If Stan Winston were still alive, he'd already be working on this.
