George Clooney has been, according to reports, injured and hospitalised after a motor accident today.
The actor had just left his hotel riding a motor scooter when he crashed into a Mercedes. The accident reportedly occurred near Costa Corallina, in the province of Olbia. According to reports, Clooney was thrown over the top of his scooter after the hit.
He was taken to the John Paul II hospital in Olbia with a possible injury and later discharged from the emergency room. The actor did not suffer any serious injuries or break any bones. According to ABC News, he has a slight contusion on his knee.
Local police are investigating the causes and responsibility of the accident. According to Carabinieri officer Alberto Cicognani, the driver of the Mercedes hit Clooney after failing to stop at a turn.
The accident occurred on the Italian island of Sardinia where Clooney is filming a miniseries based on Joseph Heller's book ‘Catch 22’. He was reportedly on the way to set when the crash occurred.
Cicognani told CNN he had spoken with Clooney, who said he was "fine" and confirmed he would resume filming on the series in a couple of days.
The actor has a long affinity with Italy, having a home on Lake Como on the Italian mainland. He is a frequent visitor to the Venice film festival and wed his wife Amal in the city in 2014.
A couple of weeks ago, he was awarded with AFI's Lifetime Achievement Award.
