Not that we ever denied it before but Emma Thompson is a total legend.

The actress, who can currently be seen playing Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast, has criticised Hollywood for the pressure it puts on female actors to be thin.

Thompson made the comment during an interview on Swedish talk show Skavlan, after another guest brought up the subject of weight loss. The panellist said that an English journalist had asked why Thompson was not as thin as other actresses, to which Thompson looked shocked. The panellist went on to say that she did not approve of the question but wanted to ask why there was this pressure in the industry.

"I said the same thing to another [producer] – do you want me to be an actress or a model?" Thompson answered. She also talked about the issue of anorexia among young people.

Thompson then related the story of how when she was working on Brideshead Revisted (a 2008 costume drama), one of her fellow actresses was asked by the producers to lose some weight.

“She was absolutely exquisite. And I said to them, ‘If you speak to her about this again on any level, I will leave this picture. You are never to do that.’ It’s evil what’s going on out there and it’s getting worse,” she said.

“There are some subjects you just have to make noise about,” she concluded.
