Demi Lovato has issued a statement on Instagram, her first since she was hospitalised in an apparent overdose, assuring fans that she is in recovery.

The singer was rushed to hospital two weeks ago and placed in care after she was found unconscious, but has since been in a stable condition since then. Lovato, who is 25, said in her statement that she has always been "transparent" about her problems with addiction, and has penned numerous songs that have acknowledged and addressed it.

"What I've learned," said Lovato, "is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet."

Lovato released a song in June, titled 'Sober', which dealt with her problems with relapsing on sobriety and drug use. The singer thanked her fans in her statement, saying that she needs "time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery."

"The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side."
