Star of the upcoming Anthropoid, Murphy gave the One Direction band member a big thumbs up.

The two will star alongside one another in Dunkirk, a war epic which marks Christopher Nolan’s latest effort.

Styles will make his acting debut in the feature and according to Murphy, he’s taken to the role like a duck to water.

Murphy told Radio Times: ‘Harry Styles is great. I had very few scenes with Harry but we got to hang out and I've got to say he's a great, great kid, and really, really funny.’

He continued: ‘Above all, Chris Nolan knows talent and would have cast Harry for a reason.

‘There's a long history of musicians moving over into acting and I come from that world myself, so I'm sure he'll be terrific in the role. I trust Chris implicitly in that.’

Styles plays a young man caught up in the evacuation of the French commune while the Allies and Nazis battle.

Oscar winner Mark Rylance previously compared Styles to Oscar winner Sean Penn, so he’s getting a lot of praise overall. Young Irish actor Barry Keoghan, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy also star in the upcoming epic.

Cillian Murphy will be in Dublin tomorrow evening for the Dublin premiere of Anthropoid.
