It was getting to be quite confusing as to what exactly Cheryl’s surname is now, but her partner seems to have cleared the matter up.

Since she has given birth to her first child – baby boy Bear, whose father is former One Direction member Liam Payne – Cheryl has decided to turn over a whole new leaf.

She is letting go of the last vestige of her marriage with ex-husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini by dropping his surname. The two officially separated three years ago but Cheryl has still been largely referred to as Cheryl Fernandez-Versini in the media.

It was Cheryl’s second change of surname – she previously adapted footballer Ashley Cole’s surname both privately and professionally when she married him in 2006. They broke up four years later.

Liam Payne in the meantime was recently asked whether it annoys him to hear his girlfriend still referred to as 'Cheryl Fernandez-Versini' or 'Cheryl Cole' in the press.

The singer revealed to BBC Radio 1Xtra's A.Dot: "Her name is officially Cheryl Tweedy now, but to be honest it doesn't really bother me, we have a kid together, there's a lot more to our life."

Tweedy is Cheryl’s maiden name and the one fans knew her by when she rose to fame as a member of Girls Aloud.

Mind you, she could’ve avoided all this hassle by just keeping her maiden name but to each their own, we suppose.
